T80 Slim & T65 Slim - Surround
With the T80 Slim and the T65 Slim, two excellent loudspeakers are available for surround tasks. Both loudspeakers use the same technology and the identical driver assembly as the T80 LCR or T65 LCR combined with an extremely small installation depth. This means that the two loudspeakers can be used excellently as wall or built-in loudspeakers. However, the slim versions should not be underestimated - they also do a first-class job as front and center speakers.

Theatrus Features
AMT tweeter
Why does Theatrus use an AMT tweeter (Air Motion Transformer) for home cinema? Our engineers have been working on various materials for AMT tweeters since 2008. From this research, the AMT tweeter for the SuperTweeter series was developed from 2018. This AMT has an efficiency of 103dB paired with excellent fine resolution. For use in the new home cinema series, a special protective circuit was added to enable distortion-free sound even in large rooms with maximum dynamics.
What makes the Theatrus AMT tweeter so unique? There are basically two classes of tweeters: PA tweeters, which usually have a high efficiency of more than 100 dB, or HiFi tweeters, which often only have a low efficiency of 92 dB or less. Although PA tweeters can handle the high home cinema sound pressure levels, they then have a lower resolution and detail reproduction compared to HiFi tweeters. Therefore, using a PA tweeter for the Theatrus series was out of the question. So another solution had to be found and the AperionAudio AMT tweeter is the optimal result.
2" dome midrange driver
Midrange speakers have a particularly demanding task in home cinema. On the one hand, they should give structure and details to the sound image, on the other hand, their radiation characteristics must illuminate the entire row(s) of seats as ideally as possible. In addition, unwanted reflections on the wall, floor and ceiling should be prevented. In order to master this challenge, the Theatrus series relies on two specially arranged 2" dome midrange drivers. These are each equipped with a low-distortion 50mm voice coil. In the lower midrange, this ensures perfect impulse fidelity, especially at high power levels. In the upper midrange, the Domes then show their advantages with the extremely even radiation behavior and the unrivaled clarity in the sound. The special arrangement avoids reflections on the floor and ceiling, while a whole row of listening places can enjoy perfect sound next to each other.

Curv™ woofer
It is a real challenge to produce a large woofer that has high efficiency on the one hand and achieves detailed sound quality on the other. This applies to all classic cone materials such as paper, aluminum, Kevlar or woven fiberglass. Instead, the woofers of the Theatrus series rely on a special Curv™ material from the German manufacturer Propex. This material combines important properties: It is light, stiff and has a high temperature resistance without water absorption. However, the decisive factor for the incomparably precise sound is the extraordinarily high modulus of elasticity (correlation between tension and expansion) and the high internal damping. The Curv™ material achieves all of these properties without the use of adhesives or resins, which is common with many other materials. This gives the woofers of the Theatrus series a decisive advantage: Because glue and resins can only be applied imprecisely in the manufacture of the chassis and therefore cause fluctuations in quality. Ultimately, the Curv™ woofers deliver exactly what the Theatrus line needs: high efficiency and at the same time outstanding sound quality in terms of fine resolution.
15" subwoofer
The 15-inch subwoofer driver developed by AperionAudio is designed as an ultra-long-throw chassis with maximum coarse and fine dynamics. The audiophile basic tuning of the chassis also ensures the highest level of detail when used in pure music systems.
The development of the driver is based on the acoustic advantages of an extended pole piece in the magnet system. However, our engineers went a step further and were able to optimize both the magnet structure and the pole piece. The result is significantly lower distortion values and more effective voice coil cooling.
The membrane is made from a very strong, long-fiber cellulose blend to ensure the right dynamic stability and stiffness. The surround is made of a special NBR mixture (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) and thus ensures more precise transient response. The large voice coil, high Xmax and vented pole piece enable clear and high-resolution dynamics without mechanical or thermal compression, even at the highest output levels. This also predestines it for the sound reinforcement of large rooms.

Sound customization
All experienced hi-fi and home cinema enthusiasts know and fear it: the influence of the surrounding room acoustics on the sound. In order to enable the Theatrus loudspeakers to adapt as best as possible to the room, our engineers have integrated some special technologies into the loudspeakers. With jumpers on the rear terminal, it is possible to adapt the loudspeaker when installed in a baffle wall or when used behind an acoustically transparent screen. In addition to these adjustments with jumpers, both the T80 LCR and the T65 LCR can be used either as a bass reflex construction or as a closed construction with the help of the enclosed plugs.
The loudspeakers of the Theatrus series have a jumper on the rear terminal, which enables the sound to be adapted to the respective installation location. Thus, the maximum tonal potential can be achieved even with fundamentally different setups.
- If the speaker is placed free-standing (or hung on a wall), the jumper should be set to "Free Field (On-Wall)".
- If the loudspeaker is installed in a "baffle wall", the jumper should be set to "Baffle Wall (In-Wall)". A "baffle wall" is a wooden frame with insulating material that is closed at the front and into which the loudspeakers are installed flush. This construction principle is often used in high-quality home cinemas. This is because the installation in the baffle wall has many acoustic and visual advantages. However, if the loudspeakers are not designed for this installation, there can be significant acoustic disadvantages.
Depending on whether a "normal" screen or a sound-transparent screen is used, the Theatrus loudspeakers can be adjusted with an additional jumper and adjusted in terms of sound.
- If the speaker is next to or in front of the screen, the jumper should be placed at "Free Field".
- However, if the speaker is behind a sound-transparent screen, the jumper is plugged in at "Acoustic Screen". Unfortunately, every sound-transparent screen, no matter how good, noticeably dampens the treble and thus reduces the sound experience. In this switch position, the high-frequency damping by the screen is compensated for by the sophisticated crossover and nothing stands in the way of the maximum wide picture for the best cinema experience.
The two main loudspeakers, T80 LCR and T65 LCR, have yet another sound adjustment option: both loudspeakers were designed in such a way that they can be used both as a bass reflex and as a closed construction. If necessary, the bass reflex tubes can be closed with the help of the enclosed foam plugs. When used as a bass reflex construction, the loudspeakers have maximum depth and pressure.
When the speakers are closed, they play with even more precision in the bass range.
Thanks to these setting options, the loudspeaker can be ideally adapted to the respective application and the surrounding room.

FAQ
The Theatrus TS15 was developed as a passive subwoofer because this variant offers numerous advantages for dedicated home cinemas:
- First of all, the user can decide for himself which power amplifier, DSP, etc. is combined with the subwoofer. Combinations are also possible in which one power amplifier or one DSP also supplies two, four or more subwoofers.
- Furthermore, all electronic devices of the home cinema can be accommodated in a common place in the room (rack / device tower). This simplifies the control and setting of the devices.
- In addition, a passive subwoofer, in contrast to an active subwoofer, does not generate any waste heat at the rear and can therefore be installed much more easily in a baffle wall or pedestal.
In principle, any power amplifier can be combined with the TS15 subwoofer, provided it has a clean power supply and sufficient power (750-1500 W / 4 Ohm RMS). We can recommend the following power amplifiers to drive the subwoofer appropriately:
IMG STAGELINE STA-2000D
Crown XLS 1002
Crown XLS 1502
These power amplifiers offer no or only very simple DSP setting options. Therefore, you should always work with an upstream DSP so that the crossover frequency, frequency response, etc. can be adjusted.
Both the T80 and T65 feature the same AMT tweeter and dual midrange configuration. As a result, the loudspeakers play identically in the mid-high range. The difference is evident in the woofer: the T80 uses two 8" woofers while the T65 uses two 6.5" woofers. In addition to the lower frequency response, the use of larger chassis gives the T80 a higher maximum volume level compared to the T65. At the same volume level, the T80 play with even less distortion.
We therefore recommend using the T80 for rooms with a floor area of more than approx. 30m². However, this decision should always be based on individual requirements. Of course, there is also the possibility of using the T65 in larger rooms or the T80 in smaller rooms.
